Selby 3rds 48 vs. Sandal 3rds 0

This was the last league game before the Christmas break and the rich run of form continues for Selby 3rds putting 48 unanswered points past Sandal at Sandhill Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Sandal started brightly and matched Selby stride for stride in the opening exchanges. Selby had a number of changes thrust upon them missing key members of the team that beat Northallerton so convincingly last weekend
Ten minutes in and with Sandal being herded backwards into their own twenty two, a series of scrums close in provided the platform for Adam Roberts to open the scoring, crossing in the corner. The chink in Sandal’s armour was further exploited as first Ted Townend touched down and converted his own handiwork closely followed by a well taken John Taylor try. Townend enjoyed the space and absence of meaningful defence to cross Sandal’s line twice more to claim a first half hat-trick.
Early in the second half Aiden Pearce demonstrated devastating changes of pace and direction to canter over & convert his own handiwork. John Taylor crossed again with Pearce tidying up the extras.
With frequent restarts killing the game as a spectacle and Selby down to 13 players after too many observations incurred the match official’s wrath it was left to John Taylor to complete both his hat-trick and the scoring
Selby had an enormous amount of grunt going forwards with the Lee brothers Simon and Adam repeatedly rumbling over Sandal’s first line of defence. David & James Blaymire were powerful in defence and elusive in attack
The bonus point win pushes Selby up to third in the league. The campaign will be re-joined on the 5th of January when Ripon come to call. Let us wish all the players and supporters of Selby’s third string a very merry Christmas and come back strong and rested in the New Year
