Adamson score for England

Yarnbury 3rd XV 12
Selby 3rd XV 22

Writes James D’Lion

Selby travelled to Yarnbury wanting revenge for last years ambush by the home first team and they got it after a gritty and hard fought battle. Selby started brightly with Churchill dancing round his opposite number in the first few minutes with the grace of a swan until being tripped which resulted in a yellow card for the Yarnbury winger. Selby capitalised on their extra man with winger England making a 50 yard break before off loading to his support which resulted in a try for Pemberton. England making the conversion. Within minutes of the restart Selby scored again with Adamson making a try out of nothing with a jinking run for England again to convert. The Swans where playing well and it looked like they where going to be a rout until disaster struck. First Phillips was sin binned in a dubious decision by the referee for lifting an opposition leg in a rook when he was nowhere to be seen. Then seconds later influential Price had to permanently leave the field after somebody stood on his toe. With Selby down to thirteen men things where not looking good but the score remained the same until half time. In the second half Yarnbury came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders scoring two quick tries taking the score to 14 – 10, and things didn’t look good for Selby. With Phillips returning to the pitch Selby picked up the pace and tackling and showed real courage as they bludgeoned every attack that came their way to agitate the home side. Yarnburys frustration was evident giving away a penalty which England converted. Selby where playing with fire in their hearts now chasing every ball. This effort was rewarded when Adamson put a well placed shin kick into touch well inside the opposition half. The resulting line out was stolen by McCoy who chipped the ball down field. The full back collecting it only to run straight into a rampaging Godfrey. Selby regained possession with the ball finding its way out to Pemberton to score his second try. This was a hard fought victory with Selby only having fourteen men for sixty minutes, typified by Spowage who had a nasty cut to his eye but just taped it up and got back on the pitch.
