Selby A 38 Scunthorpe A 26
Selby’s Yorkshire 2 league game was lost to the weather , so the second string were bolstered by a number of first team regulars which lifted the team’s performance to inflict only the second defeat of the season on the Scunthorpe A team.
Selby looked to have the game sewn up by half time, leading 26-6 at the break, but a tremendous second half fightback by the visitors almost snatched an unlikely win, until a couple of late scores sealed the home victory.
There were tries by Alex Arthur (2), Martin Protheroe (2), Jon Crane & Paul North, with off half Iain Adamson converting 4, with the link between No 8 Protheroe & veteran scrum half, Ed Clark a feature of the game. Former London Nigerian Clark became the latest in a notable line of father & son combinations to have appeared for the club, playing alongside son Septimus Clark on the wing.
This was an excellent team performance orchestrated by skipper North & manager Toby Pemberton, with encouraging displays all round, but particular note of the efforts of young prop, Joe Romaniyw, the Was brothers, Yung & Mhid, also newcomer to the game big Rob Bourke showed great potential with his raw, robust enthusiasm an entertaining feature of the game.
