A great day of rugby at Goole girls U13’s festival at the end of what is “Women’s Sport Week”. The growth of the game has been felt from the elite down to the grassroots, with over 300 rugby clubs in England with women’s and girls’ teams.
It was a fantastic turnout in Goole, with 10 clubs turning up, forming seven teams to participate in festival. Selby girls played well, winning four of their six matches. They had a convincing win over Old Brodleians, winning 5:1. Ella scored the opening try with a dash for the line along the full length of the pitch. The 2nd try was scored by Sophie, and came from a successful Selby scrum, followed by a crunching tackle by Darcie.
The match against Sandal was a little tough, but the girls put in good defence in what turned out to be a very fast paced and physical game.
All the girls worked hard as a team during the games, there were some superb tries scored and some hard tackles made. Above all, everyone enjoyed the day, and Selby were an excellent example of Girls rugby at its best.
