SELBY’S FIRST RUGBY PENS AT PLAY

Sunday saw a first for Selby RUFC as they took the clubs first ever U13s girls side (Selby Pens) to play away at Skipton RFC, in a 7 a side development tournament.

The girls showed great commitment, enthusiasm and some good skills in the two games they played in, despite only having trained together for 8 weeks.

 Castleford Girls scored the first try of the game only for Selby Pens to soon return with a great run and try to even the scores. In an even and physical end to end game, tries came hard and fast with the game ending 6 tries to 5 to Selby, with 3 tries for Selby's Darcie Edmunds.

In the second game Selby came up against a much stronger and more experienced Old Brods side who ran in plenty of tries in the opening half. The Pens stuck at it though in the second half and scored through a hard won turn over and then a great run and finish from Ella Parsonage who also scored two tries in the first game against Castleford.  

Great work and tackling from Tara Campey along with the rest of the girls ensured the second half was a much closer contest.

The whole team worked hard and enjoyed their first experience of playing for Selby Pens and showed a glimpse of the potential this team has as they develop over the rest of the season.
