On a breezy but ultimately dry afternoon at Sandhill Lane, Selby 4s entertained Huddersfield YMCA 3s and after an early arm wrestling between the two packs Huddersfield struck first with a try - 0-5. Selby continued to put pressure on the YMCA line and were rewarded with a fine try in the right hand corner after a good forward push. 5-5. Huddersfield scored next after a midfield mix up allowed the full back to run through to the line unopposed and the try was converted for 12-5 half time lead.
The second half started slowly and badly and Huddersfield scored 2 quick tries to establish a 22-5. Could SELBY come back into the game. Oh yes and how. The team seemed to click into gear and were rewarded with 3 excellent tries of which 2 were converted to lead the game 24-22 approaching the final 10 minutes.
Selby comfortably keep YMCA out to earn a morale boosting win and set them up for next weeks trip to Hemsworth.
It’s hard to single players out after a tremendous team cone back but Mark Houston was immense and carried really hard all afternoon.
