A win for Selby u14s against Wetherby

A wet and boggy Wetherby pitch welcomed Selby U14’s on Sunday morning for a very competitive match.

The game was evenly matched from the start with defence on top, and very little mistakes from either side. After 15 minutes of continuous play, Selby made a breakthrough, spreading the ball out wide for Jack Hudson to score and convert his own try. The remainder of the first half was dominated by defence, with Joe Schofield and his back line forcing mistakes from Wetherby.

The second half started with Wetherby on top, pinning Selby in their own half and building pressure, before a great turn over by Luke Moseley allowed Selby to break clear. After 10 minutes of the second half, Selby’s hard work paid off with Kyle Vause breaking down the right wing to score in the corner. Conversion missed by Jack Hudson. A mistake from the kick off gave Wetherby great field position, and after 2 minutes of slick hands, Wetherby’s left winger found some space and scored under the posts, converted to make it 7 - 12.

The final 10 minutes were nervous times for Selby, but some great defensive work notably from Taelor Oldroyd and Prash Veerasamy earned Selby possession, which Flynn Goddard and Oliver Spink took full advantage of, sniping either side of the ruck to gain territory for Selby who earned a penalty in front of the posts for Jack Hudson to take the 3 points and give Selby their first win against Wetherby for multiple seasons.
