Report by Will Stoker

Selby U13’s travelled to Castle Park on Sunday Morning to play a strong Doncaster side enjoying a successful season. The match started even, with both teams making mistakes before Jacob Kingswood smashed through the defence to get the opening try. Shortly after, Will Carr stepped through a broken defence and ran untouched for 50m to score Selby’s second. Doncaster answered back with a try of their own through strong running forwards ripping Selby’s defence open through the middle. The first half finished with some classy play from Selby, with Jacob Kingswood sprinting round the outside, before offloading to Brodie Lowry for the final score of the half.

Doncaster scored early but the second half belonged to Selby who scored 5 unanswered tries against a depleted Doncaster. Jack Hudson and Prakash Veerasamy shrugged off tired defenders to score 1 try each, before Ollie Spink collected a knock on by Doncaster, sprinted round 3 defenders then stepped past 2 cover defenders to score a superb try under the posts. Will Carr and Jacob Kingswood scored a second try each to round off a great team performance in one of the final games of the season.

Special mentions to Jayden Fielden, Joel Wallace, Ben Rucklidge, Finn Thornton, Kaiden Backhouse and William Lancaster who showed excellent core values by helping fellow club Market Rasen who otherwise, wouldn’t have enough players against Doncaster’s second team.
