Selby U 13's Boys travelled to East Yorkshire to face Driffield U13s in the semi-final of the Yorkshire Bowl competition

Selby travelled to East Yorkshire to face Driffield U13s in the semi-final of the Yorkshire Bowl competition. The Cygnets started well, looking bright and alert; possession moving back and forth between the two teams until Selby took advantage of a quickly-taken line-out, passed out to full-back Ollie Uren who raced down the touch-line to score, following up with the conversion. Following the re-start a series of penalties against the away team gave Driffield possession deep into their opponent’s half and it wasn’t long before they broke through the Selby defence to score. Driffield continued to apply pressure and it was only some superb tackling, particularly from Sam Perrin, Charlie Bramley and Ollie Uren, that prevented another Driffield try. In the last minutes of the half Selby were defending a scrum 5m from their line, Driffield won the scrum but a long pass left one of their backs exposed – catching the ball but with no support; Uren tackled and stripped the ball, running the full length of the pitch to score.
In the second half the continuous Driffield pressure paid off with them touching down twice to draw ahead. With 5 minutes left and Driffield camped on the Selby line it looked only a matter of time before another home score but somehow the Cygnets managed to turn over possession and again Uren outstripped the Driffield defence down the full length of the pitch to score his third of the day. With Driffield attacking hard and Selby leading by 2 points the last few minutes were extremely tense but the home team captured a deserved victory by touching down once more just before the whistle went. A great game to watch for both sets of supporters and another where, despite the result, Selby’s improving performance was apparent.
