The Selby under 15 boys arrived bright and early for their match against Thornesians on a cool but still Sunday morning. The squad were well up for the game, despite several players being under the weather.
The match commenced and an early try by Ben Sibley, took Selby into the lead, this was swiftly converted by a clean kick from Harry Kealey. The boy’s heads were up and they worked hard, however three unconverted tries followed by the Thornesians. Despite this, the boys kept their cool and determination and were rewarded with Connor Dale scoring a fantastic try, right under the posts. Once again, the try was converted by Harry Kealey. The second half started well, with Connor Dale catching the ball from Harry Kealey’s restart, once again scoring a try, after breaking through several tackles of the Thornesians defence, which took Selby into the lead. The game continued and was physical on both sides, with both teams blowing hard, but Selby continued to put pressure on the opposition. Another two tries from Connor Dale followed. Ben Sibley once again scored, with Harry Kealey able to convert with ease. A final try from Dale following a great run, with Kealey being unlucky in hitting the post from difficult angle.
Thorneasians made a good run one the left and scored, however failed to convert the try, meaning the final score was 20-41 in Selby’s favour. A well deserved first win of the season for the Selby squad and the boys were in great spirits. Stand out performances from forwards Benjamin Cockeram Alistair Ellam, Charlie Todd and Finn Leighton.
