Report by Matthew Baggaley

First match of the season saw us head to Doncaster who fielded a strong team. Doncaster started off strong scoring 4 tries in the first game, despite some strong tackling from the small Selby backs. lost 4-0

It was obvious from the start of the second game, that this was Doncasters weaker team, as both teams were more evenly matched. A injury replacement 2/3rd of the way through the game saw Will B come on and within seconds put in a blistering run to offload to Harry Keally to score for Selby. Selby managed to maintain most of the possession, with a number of good runs, but couldn't break through the Doncaster defensive line. Won 2-1

The 3rd game was against Doncasters A team again, and despite this, the first 3 scrums were all won by Selby, with a good chase down from the 3rd scrum, lead to a clash of heads, and injury replacement. Following this, A set piece, and the sight of Tyler McHale-Higgins being driven on by the small Selby side, into driving maul was a brilliant sight, and with Doncaster starting to lose their heads, concealing a number of penalties, a cracking pass out the scrum to Will Bateson saw him in for another try. Draw 1-1

We lost the toss in the 4th game, and Doncaster selected to play down hill for the first time, and unfortunately dominated by Doncasters large forwards we conceded a try within the 1st minute. A grubber kick, and Doncaster benefitted from a scrum to run in their 3rd try. Some good hands following a kick deep out of our half saw Will Tehan run the length of the pitch uphill for a brilliant try in the corner. Some strong running and the down hill pitch to support them saw Doncaster run in another 2 tries. Loss 1-5

Despite the weather, an excellent morning of rugby, which the teams should be really pleased about.

The coaches post match briefing praised all the lads for some excellent team work, with acknowledgements going to Jack Calam & Joe Bugg for their work as forwards in the scrum, rucks and some strong tackling. Reggie Joyce for showing brilliant work at the breakdown as scrum half. Gabe Sheppard with some strong runs through the middle and impressive tackling.

(Apologies if I got the scores wrong, I tried to keep up lol)
