This Sunday Selby hosted their first match of 2019 against both Pocklington and Driffield in a three way contest.
A freezing morning saw Selby field two teams against two from Pocklington and two from Driffield.
Selby team 1 played Pocklington A team while Selby team 2 played Pocklington B team on the main pitch.
Selby team 1 were perhaps a bit rusty after the Christmas break and struggled to get any play flowing. Pocklington A seemed the stronger team and despite some good breaks by Connor Dale, strong tackling and running from Ollie Love and excellent support in the rucks from Jack Callam, Selby walked from the field in defeat.
The second game which was against Driffield again saw a beleaguered Selby team 1 struggling, despite some good communication amongst the players they floundered against the strong Driffield side. With confidences low they left the field frustrated with a second loss.
Selby team 2 had more success they managed, with the help of all-rounder Freya Clayton who gave 100% and Frankie Watson for his vision and direction, to give Selby a good win over Pocklington B but a loss to their A side.
This is only the second defeat for Selby since August. Hopefully, this is just a blot on the landscape on an otherwise glittering season.
Now that they have re-grouped after the Christmas break they can now move on and try to capture their previous winning form.
