On a bright sunny Sunday at Selby Rugby Union Football Club, the Selby Pens enjoyed an afternoon of touch rugby.

Having not played a match in several months, the interclub event was arranged by the coaches and managers and was met with great excitement by all the young ladies who could not wait to get on the pitch and play the sport they all love so much.

The U13s and U15s girls were separated into four teams that played three matches whereby the U13s girls learned a lot from the older girls and, dare I say it, the U15s learned a thing or two from their juniors!

The U18s and Ladies XV were also separated into teams and their strength, determination, and love for the game of rugby was as strong as it was in their last game that they played back in March..... you would have never believed 7 months had passed!

This event was never about winning or losing. It was about the girls' rugby family coming together and enjoying being back and celebrate our valued sport.

This day would not have been possible if it were not for the Club's strict following of the Government and RFU Covid-19 guidelines. Hand sanitiser and social distancing on the side-lines did not put a stop to the enjoyment of everyone involved.

Rugby is becoming increasingly popular with girls, not surprisingly as it offers resilience and the chance to boost self-confidence. It also allows girls to form friendships that last a lifetime.

All this was evident at Sandhill Lane on Sunday 11th October by the smiles on all the Pens' faces.
