After a glorious win on Saturday against Hullensians, the eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that Charlie Cicero did not take up his appointed captaincy role. Due to a significant increase in work and home commitments Charlie felt he couldn’t give this important role his 100% commitment and therefore took the very difficult decision to stand away from being the captain of the 1st team this season.

Over the last few weeks, coaches and players have been approached and were asked to make recommendations based on who they believe to be the best candidate to fill this role. Whilst I am saddened to see Charlie step away from this position and I fully understand and support his decision, the coaches and players voted for Josh Cruise as Captain supported by Tom Edwards and Adam Leetham.

We have checked the constitution of the Club and under these circumstances and through amendment ‘K’, the Board can fill any elected officer position in the season if a vacancy occurs and we feel that this is very much a coaches and players decision and one the Board back wholeheartedly.

We wish Josh Cruise and his Vice captains all the very best for the season and I am sure they will hold these prestigious position in the manner that their predecessors have.

I would like to take this opportunity in thanking Charlie for his leadership last season and rest assured he will still be playing with the 1st team – as well he did on Saturday by scoring our first try! On behalf of the Board and the Membership, I send him our wholehearted thanks and best wishes.

Yours in rugby
Mark Steward
