Selby u15 boys v Goole RUFC
By Karen Ratcliffe
Under grey blustery skies, SRUFC U15s discuss tactics during their game with Goole.
Selby U15 boys welcomed Goole RUFC to a windy Sandhill Lane on Sunday. This was a much anticipated local derby which also saw the return of several old Selby players who had moved over to Goole during or at the end of the last season.
To allow maximum player involvement from a large Selby squad and Selby subs for Goole, who one player short, the match was split into 3 x 20 minute games.
In the first 20 minutes the teams were equally matched, Selby were first to score but Goole were resilient to take the lead 5-7, just before the whistle blew, with a storming run by their player to place the ball under the posts.
The remaining 40 minutes saw Selby dominate the score line as play showed their greater power in tackles, scrums and forward drives giving opportunities to many players to dive or drive over the line and rack up the score. However Goole rallied and stopped several of the young swans’ pitch runs with some great tackles on the wing.
A return match in Goole is scheduled for March.
Selby’s try scorers: Hardegon (1), Husband (1), Ginty (1), Abrams (1), Barlow (1), Liddle (1) Bishop (1)
Selby’s Conversion scorers: Ginty (1)
Selby’s Conversion takers: Scholefield, Gabel, Stephens
The U15’s look forward to a match at Hullensians on Sunday 20th January, new opponents this season. This is a preparation match, along with Ripon on 27th January, before the Yorkshire Plate Semi-final at Guisborough on 17th February.
