No Room for Tiredness as Selby's u15 Squad of 15 take on Huddersfield
By Karen Ratcliffe
Determined win for Selby
On a drizzly Sunday afternoon, Selby U15s boys took on Huddersfield RUFC at their ground in Brewery Drive.
These two teams last met in the 2017-2018 Yorkshire Plate quarter-finals which saw the young Swans dominate with a 40 point clear victory to claim a place in the semi-finals.
From this previous encounter, the game was favourable for Selby but as ever the team needed to play to win and with only 15 players there was no room for tiredness or injuries.
The match started strongly for Selby who dominated in their half of the pitch with the whole team working strongly together to pass, drive, win scums and put the opposition under pressure at all opportunities. The reward was an opening try from Cullip over the corner line.
Selby continued to push hard denying Huddersfield, through great defensive play, any forward movement or score resulting in a half time score of 0-10 following a further fast-paced try from Bishop.
However Huddersfield were not ‘down and out ‘and their determination in the second half saw them monopolise on Selby’s slow reactions, to score three times, with one successful conversion.
Selby’s response saw a further four tries, including a hat-trick from Bishop and a forceful drive from a pack of forwards, to see Liddle place the ball over the line to score.
Selby’s scorers: Bishop (4), Liddle (1) and Cullip (1).
Looking forward, the team are now preparing for their round one Yorkshire Plate game at Moortown RUFC on Sunday 16th December
