Selby U15’s v Ripon
By Alan Scholefield
One all this season!
A challenging match, with regards to the first wet weather of the season and their strong opponents, Ripon RUFC, saw Selby U15s boys unable to convert all opportunities to points at home on Sunday.
First half play was equally matched on the pitch in terms of strength in tackles, drives and scrums but Ripon monopolised on Selby’s handling errors and a lack of team communication at times to create a 0-19 lead at half time.
Both teams were tired and wet after the first half pitch battle but Selby were determined to show their resilience and the supporters where appreciative of the young swans commitment to the remaining match which eventually yielded a well fought try as Liddle scored, supported by the driving force of the forwards.
The match continued in backwards and forwards play as each team tackled fast- paced runners from their respective scorelines. Ripon seized a further two opportunities to score before Selby took the final try of the game. This was a team effort to drive up the pitch allowing Bishop to obtain the passed ball and dive over the remaining centimetres to claim the score.
The team will review the pitch action from Sunday and work on the key improvement areas as part of their 3 weeks of preparation for the next round of The Yorkshire Cup at Sheffield on Remembrance Sunday 11th November.
Selby’s scorers: Liddle (1) Bishop (1).Conversions: Hammell (1).
