Selby v Hull Ionians

Selby through to the second round of the Yorkshire Cup
Tenacity, technical skills and tactical team work summed up this first round match of the U15s Yorkshire Cup when Selby hosted Hull Ionians on Sunday morning.
From previous encounters, the draw was favourable for Selby but as ever the team needed to play to win.
Selby dominated the first half as the whole team worked strongly together to pass, drive, win scums and put the opposition under pressure at all opportunities through great defensive play resulting in a half time score of 27-0.
However Ionians were not ‘down and out ‘and their determination in the second half saw them monopolise on Selby’s errors, surprising them with ball interceptions to score.
Selby re-grouped and got back ‘into the zone’ racking up the score to a point where the match was declared a win for them.
The remaining 10 minutes continued as a friendly but Selby did not take their ’foot of the pedal’ and the young swans put on a great show of their rugby talent to achieve a final score of 56-10. The final try was a storming 2/3 of a pitch run by Gabel as he was hotly pursued by Ionians, a thrilling end to a fantastic match.
Selby’s scorers: Abrams (3), Bishop (2), Gabel (2) Hardegon (1), Sowersby (1) and Cullip (1).
Well done to the whole team!
