Selby U15 Boys Yorkshire Bowl Semi-Final

Selby U15 Boys Yorkshire Bowl Semi-Final

Selby travelled to Leeds with their Driffield teammates for this Yorkshire Bowl semi-final match. Leos kicked off and within a few minutes it was clear that they would provide tough opposition when, following a series of rucks, the home team opened the scoring with a try. On the re-start the game started to take the shape it would follow for the remainder of the tie with handling errors on both sides leading to scrum after scrum. For much of the first half the game looked in the balance with both teams proving capable of powerful tackling and effective defending. The only area where Leos really had the edge was in their speed to rucks and breakdowns and it was from a penalty following a ruck that the home team scored their second. Selby fought back and just before half-time won a penalty from a scrum. Driffield fly-half Cain Robb weaved through the Leos defence and scored.
The second half continued with successive scrums, the Selby pack winning their share despite being clearly outweighed by their West Yorkshire counterparts but it was from one of these that Leos scored their third try. Selby mounted several promising attacks only to be thwarted by Leos’ very strong defence but before long it was the away team who were having to defend – twice holding the opposition up on the line before Leos’ full-back finally broke through to score. As the game entered its last quarter Selby started to tire and Leos took full opportunity, scoring a further two tries to win the match. Although the result was clearly disappointing for the Selby and Driffield lads the score didn’t do them justice and they played with real spirit and determination. This was probably the toughest opposition Selby/Driffield have faced this season and for much of the match there was very little between the teams. Selby’s coach nominated Josepth Styrin and Cain Robb as men of the match.
