u13s against Driffield
By Lisa Backhouse
A strong win with good sportsmanship
After all the poor weather recently it was great to get back onto the playing fields and Driffield was Selby’s U13’s next opponents down at Sandhill Lane.
Selby have lost twice this season to there opponents, but was today the day they would be victorious?
A fast and furious start saw Selby go into a 3 try lead , with some great rucking and clearing up at the break down. A big squad from Selby was a great positive as every player that rolled on as a substitute carried on the momentum and Selby went into the half time break 5-1 up .
A big ask from the Selby coach was to keep on pushing and to get 10 try’s onto the board , but the beginning of the second half saw Driffield who were depleted in numbers and with the help of some Selby players in Harry Blore , Bailey Hargreaves and Noah Athraby who showed great respect in playing for the opposite team came back into the game and before the second half was 10 minutes old the game stood at 6-3 . A bit more composure from Selby with some brilliant rucking and great counterattacking saw a couple more back to back try’s 9-3 , but was this the day Selby would post 10 try’s ? A sloppy try was given away by Selby and with a couple of minutes left the score was 9-4 .. but wait Selby were to make sure the coaches went home happy and with a quick substitution of Reuben Dakin coming back onto the field and Will Carr running through once again and scoring a personal tally of five try’s for the game , the end result saw Selby win 10-4 . A big mention goes to Noah Athraby for scoring his first try of the season for Selby and going on to get another.... for Driffield!! .
