Selby under 11's were on tour this weekend in Leicestershire, 28 players, 9 management/coaching staff and numerous parents set sail on the tour bus from Sandhill Lane on Friday 1st March.

Saturday saw a sunny afternoon and a fixture at Ashby-de-la-Zouch with games against the homeside and neighbouring team, Camphill. The Selby younsters couldn't find any form against these two powerful (and unbeaten for two seasons) sides. However, this friendly and enjoyable afternoon gave Selby some valuable training and thinking time for the main fixture on Sunday.

The tour bus pulled into Leicester Forest RUFC in the drizzle and mist on Sunday morning. Selby were playing this 4-way fixture against the hosts, the original Wasps, and nearby Syston on 4G turf pitches. In their new black and red tour kits Selby started the day as they would finish it, on a high.

The youngsters showed commitment and skill with each play. They demonstrated immense defensive skills and gained territory with forward attacks resulting in try after try after try. Both teams won every single game. Stand out performances are for every single one of the 28 players who were on the tour, including team mascot Yousef Alnajar, who was still recovering from a broken leg playing at Ripon early in the season. Proud parents and coaches had the greatest pleasure watching this amazing under 11's squad, who represented Selby RUFC with fabulous teamwork, skill and passion for the game.

Thank you's to the two well organised hosting clubs for such a warm welcome, and to the Selby coaching staff and to tour organiser Matthew Baggaley. But mainly to the boys who show week in week out that they are a strong and competent team in Yorkshire but now also in the Midlands.
