History on Selby side ahead of Semi.

Selby have appeared in 6 Yorkshire Shield Finals losing their first in 1970 to West Park Old Boys by 9 points to 5. Another loss in 1972 to Rotherham by 6 points to 3 was followed by Selby’s first success in the competition in 1974 when they beat Bradford Salem by 9 points to 6 at Morley. Selby had to wait a further 8 years before their next success when they beat Driffield, at Hull Ionian’s Ground by 15 points to 3. Selby’s last success in the competition was in 1995 with a resounding win against Beverley at York by 32 points to 18. There is also a chance of a re-run of last year’s final with both the Swans & Bridlington having a chance to progress, the Seasiders claiming a narrow & controversial win. Selby were desperately unlucky in 2001 not to appear in the Yorkshire Cup Final when they lost to Middlesbrough in the eighth minute of added on time. In 2005 they had a marvellous run in the Intermediate Cup reaching the Quarter Final stages before losing to Staines.
