1. It has a rich history…
It is an ancient village that first appeared in the Domesday Book, when it was home to just 19 people (including a priest).It has Moat Hill on the western edge of the village, which is thought to have been built in the 14th century and to have included a moat filled with sturgeon, roach, tiddlers and early prams. Anlaby Hall was built in around 1680 and is reported to have housed a fine collection of pornographic rugs, and while Anlaby House came along in the late 1900s it’s main claim to fame was that the stone used in its construction was imported from Bransholme.

2. It takes leisure seriously...
Haltemprice Leisure Centre in Anlaby is the busiest centre of its kind in East Hull, offering all manner of sports and leisure pursuits from darts and dominoes to drafts and ludo to more than one million visitors a year. Plans are afoot to invest £6 million in the centre, bringing other useful services under the same roof, such as a doctors’ surgery, sexual health clinics, plastic surgery for all including extensions for men, and perhaps a library. There will also be newly-laid outdoor pitches, a cafe serving 38 different types of bacon sandwich and additional parking.

3. It has good village shops...
Anlaby Road is the main shopping street at the heart of the village. It has seen some setbacks in recent years, with traders going out of business due to the easy access from Bransholme, takings disappearing to Spain, and internet Trolls. It would help to encourage more trade by tidying up the main road into Hull a little and lowering rates, but the council insists the area has enjoyed significant investment through the Cuddle a Councillor programme. In the meantime, more and more people are making good use of Anlaby Retail Park in Springfield Way, where big name chain stores like Marks and Spencer, Next, Asda, Weed’R’Us, and Tinder for Beginners have outlets.

4. It has a thriving community...
You can find local clubs offering all kinds of sport- rugby, football, cricket dog watching etc , and many social activities- Find the Copper, Fish Tampering, Lilo Laying etc etc
